The county is governed by six magistrates, each elected to represent a certain portion of the county, and a county judge executive. All serve 4-year terms. Meetings are held each month. County officials oversee the fiscal aspects of the county operations including roads, water and budgets. The courthouse, located at 10 Public Square in Leitchfield and open weekdays, handles county licensing and records and houses the offices of the property valuation administration, treasurer, county attorney, clerk, treasurer, and county judge executive (270-259-3159). A new 300-bed Grayson County Detention Center is being built just outside of Leitchfield on Shaw Station Road with jail completion slated for mid-2001.
